Malcom Dress Code

Capistrano Unified School District has a district-wide dress code (Board Policy 5142).   The School Board believes that appropriate dress and grooming contribute to a productive learning environment.

Students have the right to make individual choices from a wide range of clothing and grooming styles, but they must not present a health/safety hazard or a distraction, which would interfere with the educational process.

Any attire which appears to glorify gang affiliations is prohibited.  Clothing that displays inappropriate messages including, but not limited to alcohol or tobacco products, obscene symbols, signs, slogans or words degrading any person’s race, color, religion, ancestry, national origin, disability, gender or sexual orientation may not be worn.  Students may not wear any clothing/apparel which is disruptive, including but not limited to: bare midriffs, halter tops, backless shirts, spaghetti straps (make sure the strap is two fingers wide), short shorts or skirts (with arm down, shorts and skirts must be longer than the fingertips), makeup, tight or revealing clothing or clothing which allows underwear to be exposed. Hair color must be a natural color.  Foot apparel must be worn at all times and all shoes must have a back strap for safety reasons.  Hats, other than the approved school hats, may not be worn to school except when special permission is granted by the administration or teacher for dress up days and/or other specified school events.

Thank you for your cooperation and support.

Tardiness

Malcom School officially begins at 7:45 a.m. with the Pledge of Allegiance.  Students who arrive late not only miss out on learning opportunities, but they also interrupt the flow of instruction for other students who have arrived on time.  Students who arrive on time between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m. should report to the Harbor where teachers are on duty to supervise students.

  1. Students who arrive after 7:45 a.m., must report to the office for a tardy slip before going to the flag ceremony or reporting to class.
  2. After a student’s third tardy, a notification letter will be sent to parents regarding their child’s tardiness each trimester.
  3. Medical and dental appointments are excused tardies.
  4.  If an unexcused tardy exceeds 30 minutes, the student is considered truant.  The district office will issue notification letters to parents of students after the fourth truancy.
